The objective of this project was to provide sustainable improvements to the community’s gravity-based, mountain spring-fed drinking water system. We were met with excitement from both El Castillo’s and Costa Rica’s governmental water organizations during our assessment trip in May. After the trip, after communication with the community, however, it was discovered that the community had already made many repairs to the water system of their own and had many resources available to them. After receiving the new information, the decision was made that there was no longer a sufficient need continue the program and it was closed out in the Summer of 2018.
